The temple was built under the supervision of Seth Jai Ram Palliwal and Mahant Shiv Narain.

As he was moving his cart, he decided that he would establish a temple for Lord Ganesha at the first place where the cart halted, and as such the present temple was set up at the foothill of the Moti Dungri hill. Later on, a beautiful palace was constructed resembling a Scottish castle, and the temple was housed inside it. The construction of the temple was entrusted to Seth Jai Ram Paliwal and Mahant Shiv Narain who completed this grand project in four years and it came into existence in 1761.
